Waiting For Rain

Release Date: February 24th 2014

The village of Stamford, the quintessential chocolate box English scene, seemed an impossible dream for foster kid Toby Prentiss. Now he’s found a home among the haystacks and village fairs as the general manager for the Duck and Drake Hotel. With the fears and demons from his youth hidden away in this bucolic oasis, he’s very protective of who he lets in. Until he stumbles across shirtless carpenter Rain Engel building the hotel’s new custom-designed bar.

Working in the countryside, Rain prepared to face his biggest fear: sheep. He didn’t expect to deal with his second biggest fear: commitment. Toby’s controlled tough guy façade coupled with his “find happiness where you can” optimism calls to Rain like nothing before. While Rain may be an exhibitionist, his romantic history forces him to hold his emotions close. As their relationship develops, secrets from their pasts drive a wedge between them: the ex-boyfriend who tore apart Rain’s trust and Toby's history with the law. But can the secrets hiding among the quirky villagers bring them together? With missing sheep, pole dancing at the winter festival, and a crippling drought, everyone is waiting for Rain.

“Toby, you are the sexiest thing I’ve seen in months. And I really want to kiss you.” I hoped my gaydar was right, or I could be about to get decked or arrested for sexual harassment. His breathing deepened. Toby was about six foot and I was six three, and I found him looking up at me a real turn-on. His lips parted slightly, and I took that as a yes. I moved in quickly, pressing my mouth against his, feeling the warmth and softness as he sighed slightly and leaned into me. I forced my tongue against his lips, parting them roughly, sliding my tongue in to touch his, slicking it against the underside of his as he slicked back. In that small room, with the smell of unwashed clothing, my sweat, and his cologne, time seemed to stop, and there was only the taste of this man in my mouth and the hardness of his cock against my groin. I felt like exploding. It had been too long.
Toby tasted like coffee and warmth and pure sex. His breathing into my mouth drove me crazy with sheer want, and the movement of his lips and tongue on mine was expert, teasing. I cupped his backside in my hands, pressing him against me, feeling his body shudder against mine. Lost in the moment, I groaned when he pulled away, his lips wet, his eyes unfocused. I reached out a hand to pull him back, and he moved away.
“This is fucking crazy,” he muttered hoarsely. “I’m at work in a bloody storeroom making out with a stranger. I must be completely certifiable.” He thrust the tee shirt into my grasping hands, pushing me out into the corridor. A maid walked past with eyes that just asked what was going on. Toby raised a hand at her as he locked the door. He still held the red hoodie in front of him, no doubt hiding the erection I’d felt against my own, which was chomping at the bit to get out of its very restrained environment.

5 Amazing Stars

I adored this story. Toby and Rain are both slightly broken in different ways. Toby was placed in foster care after his single mother passed away at the age of 10. He finally ran away from his last foster home at the age of 15 and has been on his own for years. He has suffered some tragedies in his life, but he hasn't let them keep him down.

Rain, unlike Toby, comes from a loving and accepting family, but was hurt when his ex decided suddenly after 2 years of what Rain thought was a loving relationship, he needed to "find himself". Poor Rain, isn't that always the way? Rain is reluctant to let himself fall in love again, for fear of being hurt.

They meet and are immediately attracted to one another. This relationship is electric from the first kiss. I loved watching Toby and Rain fall in love. It takes time, but they slowly learn to trust one another, and learn how to love again without fear of being hurt.

Susan wove a emotional story. My heart broke hearing what happened to Toby in the past. He has been so hurt. I just wanted to hug him and tell him it would all be okay. Yet he was resilient. Every time life knocked him down he fought his way back up.

Rain doesn't want a relationship, but can't help falling in love with Toby. Once he falls in love he jumps in with both feet to support Toby any way he can.

Rain and Tony have a beautiful relationship. This was a long book, but I still wasn't ready for it to be over. I was left wanting more, but in a good way. This book was HOT HOT HOT!! There is a LOT of smoking hot sex in this book. These two go at it like bunnies and Susan isn't shy about sharing it, and I loved every steamy scene!

The thing I absolutely loved about this book though, was after the big climax, we still get about 15 or so percent of reading. We get to actually see what their life is like as a happy and loving couple, and not just from one scene in an epilogue. I wish more authors would do this.

Highly recommended!!

Author Bio

Susan Mac Nicol is a self confessed bookaholic, an avid watcher of videos of sexy pole dancing men, geek, nerd and in love with her Smartphone. This little treasure is called ‘the boyfriend’ by her long suffering husband, who says if it vibrated, there’d be no need for him. Susan hasn’t had the heart to tell him there’s an app for that…

She is never happier than when sitting in the confines of her living room/study/on a cold station platform scribbling down words and making two men fall in love. She is a romantic at heart and believes that everything happens (for the most part) for a reason.  She likes to think of herself as a ‘half full’ kinda gal, although sometimes that philosophy is sorely tested.

Lover of walks in the forest, theatre productions, dabbling her toes in the cold North Sea and the vibrant city of London where you can experience all four seasons in a day , she is a hater of pantomime (so please don’t tar and feather her), duplicitous people, bigotry and self righteous idiots.

In an ideal world, Susan Mac Nicol would be Queen of England and banish all the bad people to the Never Never Lands of Wherever -Who Cares. As that’s never going to happen, she contents herself with writing her HEA stories and pretending, that just for a little while, good things happen to good people.
