After one unforgettable night with a dangerous outlaw, Fia knows she must limit contact with the kind of man who could never fit in her wealthy circle. Unfortunately, she can't keep their brief but passionate encounter far from her thoughts. When she seeks him out for reasons unrelated to their chemistry, the worst happens, and Fia is attacked by a madman. With her life turned upside down, she seeks help from the one person she can’t get out of her mind.
Betrayed by someone he should have been able to trust above all, Acer spends the next two decades of his life avoiding entanglements that have any chance of ending with a knife in his back. The MC life provides a safe way to have personal connections and loyalty due to its simple rule: betray the club and punishment will be severe. Still, he keeps a large part of himself locked away inside, hidden even from his MC brothers. When the woman who’s been messing with his head for months reappears in his life needing sanctuary, Acer jumps to her aid. He’s committed to help her reclaim her life, but determined to keep her at arms-length in the process.
As Acer and Fia fight their growing feelings, his club is in danger from a new and different kind of enemy. Will his refusal to put his full trust in anyone, including the woman he’s falling for, end up destroying more than betrayal ever could?
“This book is everything and more then what I expected. Lilly Atlas is such an amazingly talented author. She brings you into this world making you feel as if you are right there in the midst of the No Prisoners.” ~Sister Spot Book Blog
Adam "Acer" Wellington is not your typical Biker. Born into a life of affluence, it wasn't until as a teen that he met Derek and the two boys developed a friendship that had nothing to do with wealth and status, that Adam felt truly happy. Adam felt as if he was loved more by Derek's family than his own and would've done anything for them. When Adam and Derek are arrested for defending Derek's younger sister, Adam has no clue how their lives will be turned upside down. While his father arranges for Adam to walk free, Derek is sentenced to five years in prison, an outcome no one could've possibly seen coming.
Knowing that he was betrayed by his father and that's why Derek sits in a cell, Adam walks away from his family and vows never to trust a soul. With only his grandmother in his life, Adam soon sheds Adam Wellington and simply becomes Acer. Now, as part of the No Prisoners MC, Acer has a pseudo family, a brotherhood he's vowed to protect, even if he still doesn't trust anyone completely.
Serafina "Fia" Caldwell also grew up in wealthy society. Considered the black sheep of her family due to her provocative career, she is fighting to keep her business from failing at the manipulative hands of her parents. A chance meeting at a charity gala have Fia and Acer crossing paths and the two are instantly drawn to one another. An unbelievably sexy night together and the two are unable to stop thoughts of one another from flooding their minds months afterwards.
When Fia learns disturbing news that will affect Acer and his club she feels the need to tell him. Tracking him down may be the worst and best thing she's ever done. Only now Fia has become the target of a nightmare and her semi-peaceful life is shattered. Acer can't let what's happen destroy Fia and as he sets out to help her, he finds he is finally able to really let someone in. Now they both have to learn how to truly trust each other.
I enjoyed Acer, finding it different from a lot of the Biker books out there. Acer has a very different background than the average MC character. He comes from money and had a good education. He loves the life he leads with the club yet he's not completely in it, either. His club brothers don't really know him and he doesn't fully trust them (he doesn't trust anyone). He's a likable character and I enjoyed his story but in the end I didn't love him.
I definitely felt my heart break for what happened to him and Derek, though. While I could see it coming as I read the prologue it still hit me hard. One of the things I find makes me instantly tear up is young innocent people being put in prison (don't ask me why, but it has the ability to make me instantly start sobbing).
What Fia goes through got to me, too. No matter how many times I read books where women face these types of things, I always wind up hoping that they get their revenge on the men in the most painful way possible. I loved that Fia was a fighter and refused to give up. With that and the similar life to Acer, the two were perfect for one another.
This was my first Lilly Atlas book but I'm pretty sure it won't be my last. I'm a sucker for a good Biker book and will be on the lookout for what she has next.
