The  truth is rarely seen on the surface, and getting to it might mean digging deep….
After a devastating accident and a long stay in the hospital, the last thing petroleum engineer Sean Wilkinson wants to deal with is the settlement the oil company tries to force on him. He’ll never be able to work in his field again, his education is all but useless, and his surgeons are pessimistic about whether he’ll ever walk again. He needs someone in his corner, but most lawyers take one look at his tattoo-covered foster father and turn their backs. It’s just Sean’s luck that the one attorney willing to give him a chance is also the hottest guy he’s ever seen.
As a trial lawyer, Nate Delany has a lot to prove—to his father, the world, and himself. Sean intrigues Nate, and he struggles to reconcile the gifted tattoo artist he can’t stop fantasizing about with the quiet, brilliant engineer. His investigation reveals facts left out of the accident report—including an illicit affair, greedy coworkers, and a vicious corporation that will do anything to protect its bottom line. When Sean’s life is threatened, winning Sean’s case, and his heart, becomes a lot more dangerous.

4 Stars!

After the attorney Nate has been working under takes credit for his work in court, Nate decides he's had enough. His father, a founding partner of the law firm Nate works for, not believing Nate about what happened is just the final straw. It's not the first time he's been disappointed by his father's actions, so why should Nate stick around? On his way out the door, one of Nate's co-workers hands him a case that will change his whole world.

Sean is smart. He has, not one but two degrees in science, after graduation he is offered a position as an engineer for the company he's been interning at for the last couple of summers during college. But just three days into his new employment, a tragic accident ends up costing Sean his leg, as well as his future career.

Nate agrees to take Sean's case when everyone else has turned him down. The two slowly build a friendship along with their professional relationship. They are attracted to one another, but will they act on that attraction and as Sean's attorney, can they find a way to do so without Nate facing an ethical violation?

This story had a bit of everything: Romance, friendship, laughter and  love, as well as some mystery and suspense. The story was good, but it was long and moved too slow. It's a very detail oriented book, overly so at times. I live on the gulf coast, and I now know more about fracking than I'll ever need to or desired to know.

I liked the premise of the story and Nate and Sean were both likable. Sean was strong and resilient, loyal and caring. Nate was sweet and compassionate, caring and willful. Both men stand up for who and what they believe in. The progression from attorney-client to friends and eventually lovers was slow. Nate and Sean really got to know one another and were well developed characters. They had great chemistry, I just wish the author had given them more page time as a couple and developed the romantic portion of their relationship more.

This was an enjoyable read, but as I said, it just had too much detail. The mystery and suspense portion of the story was very well done. The author kept me guessing as to who the real bad guy was until the very end and I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all unfold.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read I'd definitely recommend!

  3. Congrats, A.J., and thanks for the good review, Tracy. I love a good gay mystery and suspense, and sometimes for me the details help with that. So this sounds intriguing to me. - Purple Reader,
