Can two very different men find the love they need to survive?

Remi Ginn’s an easygoing werecat with a love of snarky T-shirts. He would be perfectly happy with a human mate. Is that what the goddess Bast gives him? Of course not. Instead she gifts him with Marshell, a Vetala, a snakelike nonshifter who drinks blood to survive. A man who’s just as toppy as Remi—and even more powerful than the West Falls Clowder’s Alpha and heir apparent.

While Remi is deciding whether he can handle the fates’ choice, hunters attack Marshell. Afterward, in an explosion of passion, Remi and Marshell mate and Remi declares Marshell his. Now they have to figure out how to make their relationship work as they dance around each other.

The clowder is in turmoil, and Remi’s acceptance of Marshell rocks the very foundation of the insular group. The consequences will be far-reaching. And if that isn’t problem enough, the situation with the hunters is far from resolved… as proved by the appearance of an Alpha werewolf.

Remi Ginn has a  big decision to make. He's found his Mate Marshell, but of course, like his fellow betas, it couldn't be easy, could it?  Marshell is a Vetala, a powerful non-shifter in need of blood to survive. In fact, he's more powerful than the Clowder Alpha and Alpha heir apparent.

But while Remi is trying to come to terms with what it means to take Marshell as a mate, Marshell is attacked by human hunters and almost dies. Only Remi, with the help of Janelle, is able to do what is needed to help his mate.  Now he's more sure than ever that he'll do whatever it takes to be with his mate even if it means leaving the Clowder.

I honestly think this is my least favorite book of the series this far. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it because I did, it just lacked something that I found in the previous 2 books.  I like Remi and Marshell both. They were great together and their interactions in and out of bed were good. I just didn't fall in love with them like with the previous couples/triad. Unfortunately I can't pinpoint exactly why.

The writing was well-done, although I felt the story dragged a bit. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, I'm excited to see how Aidric will overcome the challenges his mating will bring.  This is a series I will continue to read and recommend to fans of shifters. After all, how often do you get to read about cat shifters?

4 Stars!
