William Harris is a reserved man, private and guarded. He has no one to go home to. He’s never found a man worth sticking around for. He’s never been in love. And he’s convinced he’s happy with his lone-wolf life.

Nate Kelly is William’s opposite, social and easy going. He comes into William’s life as the elegant geisha Momo. When William realizes Momo is a man in drag, he’s captivated.

From their first date, William’s world changes. Nate is nothing like his usual type. And William soon finds out being with this carefree man means always being on display and attracting attention, which makes him want to retreat. He tries to keep Nate at arm’s length, but it’s no use. Nate’s transformed his life in a matter of months and keeps drawing him back in.

If they stand a chance, William has to be comfortable standing next to someone so at home in the limelight. Their future together and William’s happiness depend on it. Is Nate the man finally worth giving up William’s solitary existence? Is he worth sticking around for?

*Extensively reworked from the short story, The Measure of a Man.

3.5 Stars!

I have become a fan of Posy Roberts over the past year and while I wouldn't say this is my favorite of her books, it was pretty enjoyable.

Momo aka Nate is very different than I expected and that was actually a pleasant surprise. When he and William first meet at a tea house where Nate performs as a Geisha, I thought he was going to be campy but as we get to know him I realize that wasn't the case. Yes, he's confident, out and proud and perfectly happy to shine but he was very easy to fall in love with.

William was harder to get a read on. He is reserved and came off as straight-laced and a bit closed off or cold when he was with his colleagues. His actions away from work and his co-workers though gave a whole different perspective on his personality. While he doesn't want them to know he's gay and judge him, William has no problem going out on the town, visiting clubs or finding someone for his bed when he leaves his work persona behind and lets down his hair.

I liked the fact that this was really about looking outside your comfort zones and I appreciated how both men seemed very interested in getting to know one another. It might have felt a touch slow from time to time but I can't help but wonder if that was more me than the actual story itself. It was definitely worth the read though and I wouldn't mind seeing more of these characters in the future.
