Terrence: A Short Story
(Under Ground, #0.8)
Publication date: May 15th 2017
Genres: Dystopian, New Adult, Romance
Bullying is nothing new to Terrence Young. The teasing and harassment are constant. His family is less than understanding as well. To them, Terrence chose to be gay and complicate their lives. Their little rejections sting and cut him deeply.
But when the Deviance Act is passed, Terrence’s life takes a turn for the worse overnight. Under the new law, a mere look, a simple touch, or a small kiss in public could mean death. Terrence attempts to hide his orientation to survive. That is until a gang attacks him in a bar and Chase Martinez interferes.
Chase is gorgeous, kind-hearted, and he’s a rebel in the Underground—all qualities that attract Terrence so much there is no stopping the fall. Loving Chase might be dangerous, but Terrence is done living in fear and letting others dictate what is right for him.

While Terrence can technically be read as a standalone, it is part of a series and I think if you read it in order it might be best. However, I have to warn you that most of the series is MF, just so you know, plus this book ends in a cliffhanger, something I'm not too happy about.
Terrence has been bullied most of his life and is almost used to it, same as he's used to the way his family treats him for being gay. Add to it that since the Deviance Act passed, he lives in fear of being discovered and killed.
He meets Chase, a gorgeous rebel, after a gang attacks him and Chase rescues him and Terrence can't avoid falling for him, despite his fear.
My heart broke for Terrence I don't know how many times. The way his father and sister treated him was awful, and I hated what he was subjected to by the gang who bullied him. Even if I liked him a lot, I was kind of frustrated at him. He'd broken up with his ex because he discovered him cheating, yet when Chase almost did the same, he just brushed it off? Sorry, but that didn't quite compute for me. I don't care for Chase's reasons, it was still cheating, and I would've expected that he at least grovelled a bit to convince Terrence. Terrence and Chase had good chemistry, but be warned that the sex scenes are fade to black.
The book was short and well-written, even if it's part of the series and I hadn't read the other books, I wasn't confused or lost. I'd recommend it to readers who like Dystopian romances.
